Did you know that 97% of people are within 3 feet of their cell phones at all times? Whether you've heard that or not, I'm going to guess that you aren't exactly that surprised. We all know that cell phones have become so incredibly important and savvy, but how do these great devices affect our social skills?
My Blackberry has unlimited texting, internet, email accessibility, and of course, twitter and facebook apps. What more could I want? I literally spend hours on my phone surfing the internet, updating statuses, and reading blogs. I could be at dinner with a friend I haven't seen in years, and I will keep my cell on the table so I can quickly respond to a text or read my email.
I have become so attached to this little piece of technology and it has changed my habits dramatically. Have you ever felt lost and confused because you forgot your phone at home? Yeah, me too. We have all become so dependent on our smartphones that we barely make the time to engage in real-life connections. I think it's time to distance myself from technology and spend a little more time with family and friends.
